14A - Halfway Reflection
1.) Tenaciousness is a competency - I have learned to make a steady schedule at the beginning of the course that you will follow for the semester. This course is straight forward and if you just make a routine schedule it will be really easy for you. For me I wake up an hour earlier every day and just knock out whatever homework for this course.
2.) Tenaciousness is also about attitude - This course is set up in a very different manner than most. It takes multiple readings of the syllabus the first week to completely understand what to do. At the beginning I missed a step and tried to make my point to the professor. I wouldn't say I was about to "give up" but it was frustrating he wasn't listening to what I was saying. So for future students just make sure you follow every single step correctly even the first week because there is a strict policy.
3.) Three tips - (1) Wake up an hour early 2-4 days a week and knock
this course out. In general if you apply that to your life (waking up an hour early every day) you could live 7 more hours a week or 365 more hours a year. (2) Come into the course knowing it is all in your hands. You literally determine your own grade by just the amount of assignments you do on time. If you plan to go into a corporate job or by the hour job this is a good mindset to have. If you just do what is assigned then you will get paid. (3) Dont get caught up on one assignment. The professor has it set up where you just do the minimum you get the credit. For instance the elevator pitch assignment, there is three of them, you should practice the pitch obviously, but dont get so caught up in it because there are three of them you're supposed to improve over time.Check out my broken finger last semester.
Hey Thomas,
ReplyDeleteI, too, have gotten in the habit of making schedules at the beginning of each term. This course has been very straightforward for the most part and there haven't been any inconsistencies, but I have had plenty of instructors in the past who have had numerous discrepancies between the syllabus, assignment tab and the grade book. I basically cross-reference those three things to confirm due dates and point values and I then put it into a shared calendar that I can access on all my devices and I then remove each one as I complete them.
Hello! I think making schedules at the beginning of each semester is so vital which is why I even go as far as making one at the beginning of week each. This class has been nice because it allows you for the most part to work at your own pace as along as you can fit in time to complete everything. I think this class is super nice because it allows you to see directly how your grade is determined. Also ouch your finger looks awful how did that happen?
ReplyDeleteThomas, the idea of a schedule is essential to this course and life in general. I used to find myself spending too much time on one assignment in past semester and not getting anything out of it. The more you practice the more you will learn. Also, at my internship I realized that it is an eight hour work day so I must finish everything within the day. Time management is key to this.
