3A: Your Entrepreneurship Story
I actually have a few entrepreneurship stories to tell. First of all entrepreneurship runs within my indirect family. My uncle (not blood related) bought an existing software company, and built it to be worth a lot of money. He sold it and has retired ever since. My uncle is very close with my family, every holiday we get together and have dinner. I see him usually once every two to three months. This allows me to have personal touch with the entrepreneurial mindset and to have someone close by if I have any questions or a new idea. My uncle also helped a friend out to start a restaurant. The restaurant is located in my hometown and I have worked there for the last 5 years (off and on because of college). This has also allowed me to be family friends with the owner and to obtain a more personal perspective on what its like to run a business. My last experience is with the entrepreneurship club. I was sitting next to a millionaire which after the meeting i was able to talk and here a little about who he was. I forget his name, but he started and sold three very successful apps, and I had the privilege to talk with him face to face for a couple of minutes.

I joined ENT 3003 because I want to get a minor in entrepreneurship. I always have new ideas and looking to start the next biggest thing. I have entrepreneurship in my family which I have always been admired with. I hope to gain some knowledge about what its like to mentally get in the mindset of an entrepreneur. I know I will start a business one day, and ENT 3003 will help me in some way.

I have no pictures related to what I wrote about but I do have one in my business attire!

  1. Based on reading your post, I can tell you are very dedicated to developing yourself as some who could possibly be an Entrepreneur. I think being able to spot opportunities and real-life solutions is something that could help you outside of school and into the real-world. I really liked your comment “I know I will start a business one day,” because it shows the confidence needed to take the business world by storm.
Going into more depth on the heart of your blog-post, having someone in your family who is in the field is a way easy way to grow. Having your uncle as a mentor of sorts could allow you to get tips and tricks that no one else can. This is especially true because you were given the chance to work under him therefore having more time to learn. I, also, think it is really helpful to join the entrepreneurship club because you are able to learn from the passion and knowledge of like-minded individuals.

  2. Hi Thomas...

That's definitely a decent amount of exposure that you've had to entrepreneurial situations. I think that having conversations and relationships with people who share that same mindset is a very important thing. As you said, it provides you with some insight as to how those types of minds work and they are always there for you to learn from and ask questions. Do you have an idea at this stage as to what kind of business you want to start later on?

  3. Hello Thomas, it seems like you have had a lot of exposure and a good bit influences for the help in the world of entrepreneurship. Having people there to mentor you like your uncle is so important to grow as a person, especially in the business world. Also like you I hope to start a business one day as well and being confident in your pursuit of that goal is so important. So many times I see people say what they want to do and end up not doing it but I feel like keeping whatever your goal is in the back of your head and working towards it by doing one small thing each day will eventually build up and get you to that goal.

  4. I find it great how your uncle is like your role model for your entrepreneurship world! My dad would be in comparison to your uncle since they are both entrepreneurs and are great at what they do. Lastly, I'm sure you receive great knowledge from the entrepreneurship club you were a part of but just be careful on who this "millionaire" actually is. Lots of these entrepreneur people tend to dramatize their success just to make them look greater than who they actually are. Increasing their reputation may increase their success.
